The food and wine equivalent of an all-star team is going to bat for military kids at a Baja culinary fundraising event Sunday on Point Loma.
Street-food super chef Sabina Banderas, Baja-Med trailblazer Miguel Ángel Guerrero and global gastro powerhouse Martin San Roman are among those representing Tijuana, Ensenada and the Valle de Guadalupe at the “Baja Chefs on the Point” charity benefit for Dewey Elementary School.
The acclaimed Valle de Guadalupe wineries pouring at the event include Adobe Guadalupe, Torres Alegre, Casa Magoni and Casa de Piedra.
Sponsored by the non-profit Point Loma Optimists Club, the proceeds are earmarked for Dewey’s science lab.
“The school has something like 90 percent kids from military families, mostly Navy. … This is a great way to help those families,” said Jim Seman, the event’s organizer.
“I never thought I could get Sabina Banderas here,” he said, likening “Baja Chefs on the Point” to a travelogue of the Valle de Guadalupe.“You’ve heard about the wonderful wine of the Valle but the food scene is really on a different level.”
