Ensenada Whales 2016

Bajadock: subjectively, have seen more whale spouts this January than in any of my previous 8 winters here.

The journey of over 10,000 kilometers gray whales done from the Bering Sea to the warm lagoons of Baja California, have attracted thousands of tourists who enjoy the marine scenery provided the peninsula.

Sightings in different parts of the Pacific Ocean, as service providers, have been successful.

In a survey conducted last February 3 by staff Rerserva El Vizcaino Biosphere in Laguna Ojo de Liebre, states that had a record of 184 thousand adult whales and 835 calves.

Sergio Susarrey, tourist service in this port, said the period from February 15 to March 15 is the most suitable for successful sightings, because you can get to see up to six whales during the trip that lasts four hours. CHANGE CONCEPTS

He said that although Sergios Sportfishing has 25 years providing this service, the terms and concepts have changed over the years.

“At first more people came to enjoy the activity because costs were lower and it was a newer attraction. On weekends staggered departures from 10:00 to 14:00 is offered, and currently only a schedule defined “, said.

He added that currently, with changing dynamics and cost representing each trip, they established only between the hours of 12:00 pm, although other service providers that provide other options.
“Fortunately, the sighting has been very good and from 15 December to date, at least with us, all trips have been sightings of whales,” he said.

He acknowledged that although the start of the season was complicated by the days of rain and wind, these warm days have been favorable. EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
Sergio Susarrey considered that the effects generated by global warming, the season may be shorter, because in some spots like Hawaii there is a gap, according to experts.

It recommended that those who decide to take one of these trips for sighting, go with comfortable and warm clothes, wear sunscreen, and if you are prone to seasickness, take the necessary preventive measures, at least 30 minutes before departure to the sea.

He said that it is intended that the passenger will comfortable, safe and has possibilities of movement on board the boats.
