Saint Patrick’s Day 2015

My sweetheart date(mom) for St Patty’s and I ventured out to O’Keefe’s Irish Pub in Tavares, Florida for some Irish food, beer and music.  We found a table right away, but, O’K’s was not selling corned beef sammiches this special day.  What to do?

Mount Dora, a few miles down the road, has dozens of restaurant options.  A few phone calls and the Frog and Monkey Restaurant and Pub’s Jaqueline was happy to tell us they had what we needed.  She also provided easy directions.

Funny thing is that I was at this exact spot a few days ago searching for a different restaurant.  I illegally went the wrong way on the one way alley to drop off mom for her convenience and to secure seating this busy Irish day.  The great news is that there was a lull between lunch and dinner at “The Frog” at 3PM-ish.

Jaqueline greeted and served us.  There were only a couple of other tables eating and a few locals were hanging out at the bar.  This cellar Pub(8 stairs down) is extremely comfy with seating surrounding a rectangular bar.  Guessing it seats approx 60 people.

As you can see from our sandwich photo, the food was delicious, though a bit different than some reubens.  Rather than a thinly sliced pile, The Frog serves filets of corned beef with thousand isle dressing.  Jaqueline also offered up some coarse brown mustard on the side to spice up mine.  Both my date and I passed on the cabbage on the sammich.  She declined due to the mess.  I just happen to dislike boiled cabbage.

The rest of the The Frog’s MENU looks like solid pub grub.  I hope to meet more locals on my next visit to this little hideaway.
