Roadtrip Gourmet

After 900 miles from Colorado on US 24, 70 and 64, I stopped in Nashville, ILLINOIS(not the more famous Nashville) for my usual notell motel.  The Best Western Nashville, Illinois exceeded my expectations on cleanliness and convenience.

Bed, bath, clean and coffee(BBCC) are my needs for a room on the road.  I’m not a fan of paying more than $100 for ANY hotel.  It’s just a place to sleep for me.  I’m usually on the road by 7AM on road trips.

Did score a king size bed and suite with microwave and frig.  Continental breakfast(complimentary) starts at 6AM.  Those little things help.  I’m focused on my destiny and am not distracted by all of the authentic American Indian souvenirs, made in China,  along my route.

After check-in a little after 9PM tonight, I searched for a beer store.  Was referred to the Citgo gas/foodstore 600 yards south and they happened to have cold Pabst Blue Ribbon beer waiting for me.

They also had a pizza/deli counter and kitchen.  Refrigerated pizzas are given your favorite toppings and thrown in an oven.  Ready in 10 minutes.

But, my green pepper/sausage pie looked a little limp and lifeless.  I think it was impersonating ME, after a thrilling night at the Broadmoor, Colorado Springs and the long day on the road.

Stopped in the Little Nashville Restaurant to see if they had an Italian entree on the menu.  BIG CHECK! ✔ L.N.R.  had 3 ITY food entrees, including meat sauce.  Asked for “1 pint” of meat sauce to go.

As you can see this half gallon of meat sauce is going to last me a while.  And it is solid stuff with onions, garlic, big flavors.  When on the road, you can always do the “pimp” your pizza trick.  Any greasy spoon will have canned tomato sauce, garlic, onions and a few spices.  A smile and an upfront tip will get you a custom sauce.

Heck I know some people(shhhhh!) who will buy a baguette bread loaf,  jar of marinera, cheese and sausage and go picnic style in their hotel room.

Add a bottle of Dago Red, like this Epicuro Nero D’Avolo and you have a gourmet treat for your road trip.  BURP…and CHEERS from the Roadtrip Gourmet!
