Got music? Check out a comfortable oceanfront venue, halfway between Rosarito and Ensenada. Hotel La Mision Music is at KM 59 on Mex Hw1, aka La Fonda exit.
Paco Diaz(attached video) plays with Miguel De Hoyos(see his video here) Fridays/Saturdays.
Alex Depue teams with Miguel de Hoyos Sundays. Check out Depue & de Hoyos here
I have not yet seen Paco live, but the video is impressive.
These professionals are well worth the 30-40 minute drive from Rosarito or Ensenada. Heck, they are worth adding another 30 minutes from my ‘hood in Punta Banda(Ensenada Sur).

Caught Alex Depue and Miguel De Hoyos at Hotel La Mision this week. AMAZING.
First and only other time I heard their live performance was at a venue with poor acoustics and my reaction then was positive, but, not glowing.
Their concert this week featured tunes from their newest CD release, “Twisted Strings”.
Walked in a bit late to the first set with approximately 50 people attending in the Hotel La Mision‘s dining room & bar. I prefer these smaller venues.
Alex on rock violin leads, but, Miguel’s latin and rock guitar solos will compete with anything I have ever heard. Together, they are able to combine sounds that feel like a quintet is playing for you. But, your eyes see only two musicians.
When they cranked up Mason William’s Classical Gas, I could not believe my ears.
Violin seems like a strange match for rock music, but, Alex rolls out so much fun and creativity with his own version of a rhythm section along for the ride.
I have not heard such creativity on a violin since my introduction to Jean-Luc Ponty in the 1980′s, thanks to Denver’s KADX 105.1 FM.
Alex and Miguel, thanks for the reminder of my past musical enjoyment and your present this week.
One contributor to this site mentioned, “I’m reminded of how so many are selling so much crud music, that there are still some real artists out there trying to put food on the table.”.
DePue and De Hoyos plays a handful of concerts each year in the Ensenada area. Don’t miss them.
“Individually, Alex DePue and Miguel DeHoyos have wowed the world—from Depue performing at Carnegie Hall at the age of 14 and touring with rock guitarist Steve Vai in 2007 to DeHoyos entertaining government officials and diplomats in Mexico and performing in Romania by invitation from the Romanian government. Together, they produce an unparalleled sound—music that can speak to anyone’s soul. “There’s really no other way to describe the fiddling of Alex DePue — it stings.” – Andrew McGinn, Springfield News-Sun “I’ve seen the great guitar players up close and in person: Santana, Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan… Miguel De Hoyos is among these greats…” – Steve Dryden, Baja Breeze -”
Hotel La Mision is located at KM 58 on Mex Hwy1, halfway between Rosarito Beach and Ensenada.
