Bye Bye 2011 and hello to more health, happiness and adventures in 2012.
The location where I shot these is a 7 mile hike up to 2,200 feet above sea level. It’s not quite all the way to the microwave towers at 3,100 feet.
First two photos view north to downtown Ensenada and include the 6 mile long sand “spit” of Punta Banda. Third photo looks south along the rocky beaches toward Puerto Santo Tomas.
My rural neighborhood of approximately 30 homes is the centerpiece of the 5th photo. My ‘hood, Colonia Puerto Escondido Ensenada, is 800 feet above sea level. The big fields are full of vegetables and wildflower farms. Those views are to the east and the town of Maneadero.
Last shot is down the spine of the Punta Banda peninsula with a northwest view. The point(punta) at the end has an elevation of 1,200 feet. Click any photo for full size.

Have been working on my physical conditioning, as normal. I enjoy a long hike(10+) miles once per week, but that isn’t the most efficient exercise return on investment in terms of time.
I can’t run much anymore, but, do interval bursts on my neighborhood’s hills. A “burst” is an acceleration of 30-60 seconds. For some, that acceleration may not be more than a 10-20% increase from their normal walking/hiking effort. Do a burst, then back down to a walk or slog or crawl for 60-90 seconds. Try not to completely stop during your rest phase, as your walk/slog/crawl will actually assist your recovery before the next burst.
Work up to 6, 8, 10,12 of these repeats after a few weeks.. As conditioning improves, you can vary the speed, # of bursts and minimize the rest/walk/crawl portion of the intervals to seriously kick your bunz. That variety and altering your route keeps it fresh and fun. You can get in a workout in as little as 20-30 minutes that will seriously improve your heart, health and girth.
No, I don’t GPS or program or heart monitor or journal. If that helps motivate you, good on ya’ mate. I have always exercised by feel, getting to an “8″ or “9″ on a scale of 10 on my burst interval effort. Used to joke that I saw god at the end of a long, grueling workout.
Suggest an easy day of aerobic exercise following these butt-kicking days. I was a puddle of protoplasm after yesterday’s workout and felt great about that accomplishment, as well as my recent progress.
Rather than a New Year resolution, I simply try to get a little better today. Salud, Amor, Paz y Aventuras en 2012.
